Evesham Golden Mile – Indoor Rowing Competition

I competed at the Indoor rowing competion on Saturday and was pleased to come away with 3rd place.

It was my first erg, (that’s what we call the rowing machines) since
November and I went 3 seconds faster than I thought I was going to do.
I had a bit too much left in the tank at the end and with hindsight I
could have gone out a bit harder.

I’m aiming to have a good crack at my PB over the coming few months after not being close to it for the past 2 years.

We had the race today on the Thames in London, 420 crews racing 4 and a half miles down the river past some of Londons most famous landmarks.

The crew I was in Oxford Brookes 2 was in fact our third crew finished 80th, we were quite dissapointed with the result especially when the other Brookes boats placed 10th and 16th. We did have a couple of last minute changes to the crew when one of our crew had to be replaced because of a family illness. That did not help matters but it is no excuse the crews get quite tightly bunched as there was 33 seconds difference between us and the crew finishing 16th they completed the course in 18 min 26 and we did it in 18 min and 59.

Anyway this week we have a 2K test on the rowing machine and we will be back into training getting ready for some of the summer regatta’s and Henley. I’ll add some photos when they are published on the web

Well it’s a week to the race, next Saturday. It looks like I will be in the Brookes second VIII, but I have learnt not to count my chickens, as I have seen some last minute crew changes happen. Anyway the 2nd crew is starting at place 22 out of 420, I’ve had a look at the draw and if we row well there is a good chance we could win the category Senior 2 which we are entered in.
